Everyone, including children, can suffer from hair loss, known as alopecia. Baldness refers to excessive loss of hair from your scalp. Heredity, a disease or even medicine can result in baldness. Androgenetic alopecia is the commonest type of baldness. It is the cause of around 95% of the cases of hair loss in the United States of America. Males are at higher risk of androgenetic alopecia. Two factors determine hair growth: a genetic predisposition and the male hormone testosterone. Usually, an enzyme in hair follicles converts testosterone to dihydrotestosterone (DHT). DHT stimulates the growth of body and beard hair, but also diminishes hair follicles on the scalp, resulting in thinner, fuzzier growth. A genetic predisposition, coupled by higher levels of testosterone and DHT, can badly impact scalp hair growth. Baldness occurs when lost hair outnumbers re-growth or when the re-growth is thinner and/or shorter than the hair that is lost. Androgenetic alopecia is considered a cosmetic issue. PROPECIA (Finasterine) is one the most effective treatment methods sanctioned by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. Taken once a day in a pill form, Propecia deteriorates the conversion of testosterone to DHT, hence preventing the shrinking of hair follicles. Propecia is for men ONLY and must not be taken by females, as it can trigger birth deformities. GENERIC PROPECIA, which is as effective as the branded drug, is much cheaper and, consequently, more affordable for males suffering from baldness. At the end of two years' study 83% of men aged 18 - 41 with mild to moderate treated with Generic Propecia were sensitive to the treatment. Most males reported improvement in appearance. Generic Propecia may cause side effects. In clinical studies, side effects from Generic Propecia were uncommon and did not affect most men. A very small number of men reported some sexual adverse side effects. These side effects were temporary and disappeared in males after they stopped taking the medication. These side effects also disappeared in most men (58%) who kept on taking Generic Propecia. For further information on efficacy and side effects of Generic Propecia, please visit
